My Review: Ted Dekker's books never fail to amaze me! They show the powerful and wonderful love God has for us, in spite of our sins. They show that God can use anyone one, no matter how imperfect that they seem for the job. He does a wonderful job of weaving fantasy and the supernatural into his stories, and making them sound believalbe. Like I can imagine, in Black that the Colored Forest, perfect world really exists, and then evil enters the world. In Chosen, part of the world of the Circle Trilogy, he has a story about the Forest Guard going on a mission into Horde territory. In chosing the 4 leaders, Thomas Hunter does something not normally done in the "real" world when choosing people for battle, or teams for football even. He choses Johnis, one of the smallest and weakest, who had already been rejected in the Forest Guard recruitment. But he is very good at using his mind and his love. Love for Elyon (God), and love for his mother who was killed by the Horde. He wants to seek justice for his mother's death, and he does just that by involving himself, although reluctanly, in the Forest Guard recruitment process, even after he was rejected. He stands up for Elyon and his mother. That's what it's about, not just a fight, not just an army that wants the strongest, but an army that knows how to love! The most important thing is love, but when the enemy attacks, and they don't want to be saved, you have to fight. You can show them love, but when they are so blind to it, when they don't want it, you need to fight, and Johnis is the perfect 16-year-old teen for the job.

Day One

Qurong, general of the Horde, stood on the tall dune five miles west of the green forest, ignoring the fly that buzzed around his left eye.

His flesh was nearly white, covered with a paste that kept his skin from itching too badly. His long hair was pulled back and woven into dreadlocks, then tucked beneath the leather body armor
cinched tightly around his massive chest.

“Do you think they know?” the young major beside him asked.

Qurong’s milky white horse, chosen for its ability to blend with the desert, stamped and snorted.

The general spit to one side. “They know what we want them to know,” he said. “That we are gathering for war. And that we will march from the east in four days.”

“It seems risky,” the major said. His right cheek twitched, sending three flies to flight.
“Their forces are half what they once were. As long as they think we are coming from the east, we will smother them from the west.”

“The traitor insists that they are building their forces,” the major said.

“With young pups!” Qurong scoffed.

“The young can be crafty.”

“And I’m not? They know nothing about the traitor. This time we will kill them all.”

Qurong turned back to the valley behind him. The tents of his third division, the largest of all Horde armies, which numbered well over three hundred thousand of the most experienced warriors, stretched out nearly as far as he could see.

“We march in four days,” Qurong said. “We will slaughter them from the west.”

My review: Melanie Wells is a wonderful writer. Her books are full of suspense, thrills, and spiritual conflict. She writes her characters like you really believe they are real. Dylan Foster especially and the others I can see as real people just going about there everday lives and getting hit with spirtual warfare and barely knowing what to do about it. Yeh we have heard about it in Church, read about it, but when a real person is in the middle of some intense struggle they don't really know what to do. Lots of people don't pray constantly and go to church all the time, and then when trouble hits they cry out to God and wonder why He doesn't answer, or doesn't care. These are real life people, working through struggles, and I could see myself being them. I could see myself in the story, not that I have encountered any real spirtual warfare (that I know), but I sure have struggles and wonder where God is sometimes. I have read all 3 of these books and they are excellent. Melanie Wells really knows hwo to put a story together, I hope to read more from her!

I graduated from Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) with a degree in Journalism. As a member of Phi Mu sorority, I partied my way though the last few years of college.

But, the truth is, and always will be, I belong to Jesus. At the age of six, I knelt at the altar of a Tulsa Methodist church and gave my life to the One who loves me.

After graduation, hired on at Harris Publishing as a software trainer, determined to see the world. And I did it without a laptop, a cell phone, an IPod or portable DVD player. Those were hard times.

But, I traveled to Ireland, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Australia, Canada and the U.S. from California to Maine. But, life on the road is difficult. Working twelve to fourteen hour days, one doesn't get to see many of the sites. In Ireland, our company's distributor drove me around at night so I could see something of Dublin.

I met Tony, my husband, in '87, at church, of all places. We got married in '92. Tony has been a pastor for twenty years. I've worked with him in eighteen of those twenty. Our heart is to see teens and adults passionate, radical and whole hearted for Jesus.

Tony and I don't have any children of our own, lots of kids-in-the-Lord and we love them all. However, we do have a very spoiled dog, and an even more spoiled cat.

I've always wanted to be a writer. My dad used to tell me, "You're a writer." I have letters he wrote me post college, exhorting me to write. In this, I believe he had the heart of God.

In '93, I started an epic WW2 novel with two plots. It was well rejected. After that ordeal, I took a break and put efforts into my job as a software project manager. But, I missed writing and in late ' 99, I took up the craft again.

With a little help from my friends, my first book was published in ' 04, Lambert's Pride, a romance novel. I love writing chick lit and romance. I love writing. What an honor.

My review: Ted Dekker is my favorite writer! I came to love his books through first reading The Circle Trilogy: Black, Red, and White. Yet again, Ted's writer has not failed to amaze me. He has put together a non-stop psychological thriller that will keep you reading and guessing till the very end. It starts out with the kidnapping of 2 children, and continues that story in newspaper type articles throughout the book. Meanwhile the story of the serial killer Eve is being investigated. Eve, who kills all his victims with a meninigtitis type illness. He doesn't use brute force or weapons, and always leaves the name "Eve" at the site of the victim. As Daniel gets closer to finding Eve, eventually the story of the kidnapped brother and sister starts to overlap...stay tuned and get your book to read the exciting conclusion!
